There are four giant cypresses planted in the Han dynasty (202 BC-AD 220) at the Situ Temple in the suburbs of Suzhou, which were named “pure, strange, ancient and weird” by Emperor Qianlong. The huge bodies leave intensive impressions to our vision, almost like a sort of stimulation. According to records in history, the cypresses were once hit by thunders, but still survived with broken branches, and grew out new branches from the scorched body. Now, they are especially lush and exuberant, forming the magnificent view with lives over thousands of years, and being worthy of respect from all the offspring of every generation.
